About Sophia

I was born in the pastoral village of Ein Karem in the ancient hills of Jerusalem . Growing up in the dawning of the Age of Aquarius in the Middle East , I was exposed to many different spiritual practises and music. This colourful abundance  accompanies me to this very day .

I grew up singing the prayers of the Jewish traditions from the many different cultural backgrounds . Tunes from Yemen , Africa , Eastern Europe , Spain, and Ethiopia were all present in my musical vocabulary.  The church bells and the Islamic call to prayer were my daily sound current . The folk music of the 60’s and 70’s that were played at my household seeped in to my musical language , as well as chants from India that were often heard and practised in my mother’s home growing up.

I was inspired by the beauty of desert Beduan songs as a frequent visitor to the Sinai Desert . I remember the ancient Gregorian chants while sneaking in to monasteries in the village where I was born .

My clear calling towords song and music led me at the age of 6 to start formal studies in classical music and later on in  jazz .

I’m forever grateful for these  teachings I received till my early adult  years . Although expected of me to go on the “normal” route as a main stream singer , my seeking of truth and an eternal quest for free expression led me on a different path. I was drawn towards music that came from honesty and spirit  and continued my personal journey through different ancient cultures , artistic exploration and the journey within .

I have been traveling extensively, from  the rainforests of the Amazon to the rhythm of life in  West Africa and the colorful cultural abundance of India , learning from these ancient traditions . I hold a deep connection to Hebrew my mother tongue and the mysticism that dwells within it  . Devotional song elevates my “beingness” whether it be in Hebrew ,the Chants of India or music from the America’s . I write songs and melodies and am continually humbled by the music that comes through me .

I’m deeply  grateful for all the teachers I had and have along the way . This endless journey of truth and expansion are all woven in my life’s tapestry and sculptures the musician and singer that I am today.

I sing for devotion

I sing for healing of all

I sing to bring together

I sing for celebration

I am a storyteller and my song is my prayer .
